Restaurant Details

This location used to be the bar and dining room called Tonic, where young chef Jonathon Dallen ran the kitchen. After Tonic fizzled, Dallen took over the whole operation. The bar side is still quite large, but Dallen has focused a lot more attention on the culinary business. Two dozen or so small plates — the “First Tastes” on the front of the menu — are too alluring to pass up. The array of tapas is generous enough to share or to eat as a small entrée (or two). For the dinner menu, Dallen expresses his sense of style and culinary confidence with such offerings as lobster and crab crepes in a rich bourbon cream sauce and a luscious herb-crusted rack of lamb with roasted-corn polenta and savory thyme sauce. There’s even a tasting menu, of sorts, for lunch: The “Choose Three” selection features such delicacies as classic mini-cheeseburgers with cheddar, miniature blue-cheese burgers slathered with caramelized onions, tempura shrimp, pint-sized crab-cake burgers, and steak sandwiches. And the day’s dessert tasting might involve a plate of freshly baked cookies served with a scoop of ice cream. — Charles Ferruzza
