Storm Warning

Ever been in an enclosed space with someone playing bagpipes? It's so loud, you want to hit someone to make it stop. The trick to enjoying the full banshee keen of bagpipe music is to hear it played by more than one piper at a time. Even better: See champion-level pipers, accompanied by drummers and dancers. Who picks the champions? Bagpipe adjudicators, of course. The whole kilt and caboodle — pipers, drummers, dancers and adjudicator — blows in tonight for Winter Storm: The Pipes & Drums Concert. Ken "the Captain" Eller, a major figure in piping circles, emcees the 7:15 p.m. show at Community Christian Church (4601 Main, 816-561-6531). The Kansas City Highland Dancers share the bill with a range of deafening international talent. Adult tickets cost $30; kids 12 and younger get in for half that, and wee lads and lassies (under 5) are free. See winterstorm.net/concert.htm for details.
