Kansas City's annual SpiritFest has an extended history of bringing top-flight entertainment for a bargain price. James Brown, Bob Dylan, Moby and Weezer have all appeared at some point, underscoring the please-everyone appeal of this quintessential hometown celebration. Now in its twentieth year, the event offers a multifarious smattering of entertainment from myriad musical genres. After all, not many concerts feature Styx crooner Dennis DeYoung jamming with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra or local rap lord Tech N9ne duking it out with '80s hair-metal mavens Quiet Riot. The inclusion of the Wallflowers, which toyed with electronic sounds on its latest effort, indicates that SpiritFest has a foot placed in the present as well as one in the past. Saturday is a rootsier affair, with a stellar lineup that culminates with the trifecta of Jay McShann, Los Lobos and Chicago guitar legend Buddy Guy (pictured).
