Pierre Sauvage was born in a French town called Le Chambon-sur-Lignon during the German occupation. But only when he was 18 years old did he learn that he and his family — along with 5,000 other French Jews — were hidden and protected from the Nazis by a network of thousands of French Christians. In 1989, Sauvage directed the acclaimed documentary Weapons of the Spirit, an attempt to preserve the memories of the survivors. Following a 2 p.m. screening of his film, the noted film scholar Sauvage speaks at the Kansas City Public Library's Main Branch (14 West 10th Street). Admission is free, but seating is limited. Call 816-701-3407 for reservations.
