One Last Cup

At 1:30 p.m. today, fútbol aficionados can watch the final game at the last World Cup 2010 watch party. We've really enjoyed the monthlong succession of matches and the proliferation of Anglicized sporting terms conveyed with Midwestern drawls, particularly references to "the pitch": "Gabriel Heinze of Argentina lies injured on the pitch!" "England falter on the pitch!" "Keisuke Honda was carried shoulder-high from the pitch!" The Pitch would like to thank FIFA, the BBC and the healthy spirit of competition for the last 30 days of unintended boosterism for the only alternative newsweekly that cares about you. Today's matchup between the Netherlands and Spain will settle, once and for all, which country's players are the best at faking an injury and rolling around on the pitch in order to earn a free penalty kick. Admission to the Living Room at KC Live (14th Street and Grand) is free, with no age restrictions or dress code for the duration of the game. For more information about the venue, See the World Cup Soccer Bars Directory for other places to watch the action.— Chris Packham
