Old Shocks

Back in 1987, Eric Bogosian's bleak and riotous Talk Radio opened off-Broadway. Who could have imagined that this of-the-moment portrait of a Cleveland shock jock, coming undone the night before his show gets syndicated, would one day seem so out of time? In gripping monologues, Bogosian's ranting Barry hangs up on transsexuals and fantasizes about shooting the people who cut him off in traffic. But unlike today's professional AM-radio splenetics, he never once receives detailed talking points from a political party. Still, Barry's talk is blunt and funny, and Bogosian's play is a portrait of all-American rage at the crucial moment when the Limbaughs of the world are just beginning to tame and monetize it. Rusty Sneary directs at the homey new Living Room (1818 McGee) starting at 8 p.m. Tickets run $15 (cash only); for more information, see thelivingroomkc.com.
