No One Loves You

Every year, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak, 816-751-1278) opens its doors for Love in Art, a romantic dinner and lovey-dovey art tour. It's great for happy couples. But what about pissy singles? They're the ones who are more likely to frequent art museums, bawling their mascara-ravaged eyes out behind black veils as they ponder van Gogh's sad-bastard brush strokes and the eternal emptiness of their forsaken souls. These maudlin vampires are in luck this year because the Nelson is also putting on what it calls a Love Gone Wrong happy hour. Tonight's free reception in the Museum Café features live music, tapas and a tour of the museum's more tortured and gothy artwork. "It should be a good place to start venting," event organizer Lara Kline says. "You can get it out of your system so you have a better year ahead." The bloodletting begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8, leaving plenty of time to hit the bars and go sleep with someone who inspires you to cut off an ear in the morning.
