Kid Rock

Pity music-snob parents. Sure, they do stuff to make their babies hip. Style that fuzzy baby hair into a mohawk. Dress the bundle of joy in Stooges onesies and miniature Doc Martens. But tots usually discover music on their own. Saccharine-sweet, contrived music, perhaps sung by a purple dinosaur. Well, maybe not. Barney was, like, 20 years ago, right? Are kid jams any cooler these days? Hell, yeah, they are, thanks to real rockers such as Jason Ringenberg, of cowpunk pioneers Jason and the Scorchers. Ringenberg comes to the Mountain Music Shoppe (12710 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee) at 7 tonight to cull from his grown-up catalog. But tomorrow morning at 10:30, he performs as his kid- and eco-friendly alter ego, Farmer Jason. His latest release, Rockin’ in the Forest With Farmer Jason, features informative punk and country jams that teach kids about nature; music-discerning parents will rock out in approval. Tonight’s tickets cost $12; Saturday’s are $6. Call 913-962-9711. Jason Ringenberg Mountain Music Shoppe
