If only we had a dollar for every time we wrote up another preview for a preeminent Native American blues-rock band. We'd have about seventeen cents. The members of Indigenous grew up on the Yankton Indian Reservation in South Dakota before launching themselves into the contemporary blues scene with their 1998 debut, Things We Do. What they do, and do well, is gritty, rocking blues dosed with Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Led by frontman and resident guitar wizard Mato Nanji, the band has caught the eye of several mover-shaker types, inking a deal with Jive Records and earning opening slots for the likes of the Dave Matthews Band and, now, Jonny Lang. There. That's about a buck's worth.
