Sunny, shady, wet and dry: Front and backyards come in all types. It's a tossup as to what the weather will be like this summer, so think about sowing the dirt with what originally bloomed here: native Missouri plants and grasses. The City Market (Fifth Street and Walnut, 816-842-1271) has wildflowers — milkweed, blazing star, pale purple and yellow coneflowers — at Missouri Prairie Foundation's annual native plant sale. Also available are ground covers such as barren strawberries, wild ginger and woodland spiderwort; shade flowers such as wild geranium and golden ragwort; and plenty of small trees and indian grasses perfect for any size yard or garden. Prices on merchandise vary. Proceeds help the Missouri Prairie Foundation and keep Missouri prairies thriving. The sale goes from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
