Get dirty where the buffalo roam.

SUN 2/6
Add mud to the sweat and tears that a good sprint generates during Sunday's Buffalo Run 5K, which begins at 2 p.m. at the Line Creek Community Center (5940 N.W. Waukomis Drive). The muck-loving participants scuttle through grassy fields, dirt trails and -- logically -- said creek. Cost is $25; call 816-822-9000 for information. -- Annie Fischer

Major League Lunch
We'll have a Royal with cheese.

THU 2/3
Held a month before the Royals' first spring training game, the 13th Annual Baseball Forecast Luncheon marks the unofficial start to the season at noon Thursday at the Marriott Muehlebach Tower (200 West 12th Street). Last year, owner David Glass spoke optimistically about newly obtained former-MVP Juan Gonzalez, fledgling superstar Carlos Beltran and rotation anchor Brian Anderson. Sunk by injuries and poor performance, the team tanked. This year's luncheon honors 2004's Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year award winners Zack Greinke and David DeJesus. If hurler Runelvys Hernandez heals his broken wing and freshly acquired veteran Jose Lima provides a spark with his live-wire personality, the team just might contend. For tickets, call 816-474-4652, extension 225. -- Andrew Miller

Girls Gone Gold

FRI 2/4
Champion swimmer, NPR host and all-around ass-kicker Diana Nyad speaks at the Women's Intersport Network's Annual Women's Sports Awards Celebration at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center (2345 McGee), where local Olympians Terin Humphrey, Courtney McCool and Muna Lee will be honored. Call 816-474-4652, ext. 229. -- Jason Harper
