Have Hometown Pride

It's nearly September, and Chiefs fans are stocking up on body paint and creative new curse-word combinations. In the immortal words of Hank Williams Jr.: Are you ready for some fútbol? Uh, wait, hold on a sec — are you sure Hank done it that way? Anyway, the Kansas City Wizards have a better chance of making the playoffs than that other KC team that kicks balls with feet. After a disappointing start, the Wizards have rallied to stay in contention during the final two months of the season. Head coach Curt Onalfo is shuffling his lineup faster than Herm Edwards and hoping that a stretch of upcoming home games carries his squad into the MLS Cup playoffs. The Wizards face off against FC Dallas tonight, hoping for a better result than July's 1-1 tie. Tickets start at $15 for the 7 p.m. game at Community America Ballpark (1800 Village West Parkway at the Legends in Kansas City, Kansas, 913-328-2255).
Sat., Aug. 23, 7 p.m., 2008
