Excelsior Springs Produce


Forget leafy greens. It's time we start judging farmers markets on their cinnamon rolls. On this new scale, the downtown farmers market in Excelsior Springs ranks near the top. The homemade goodies from Van Till Farms, a regular at the City Market, are main attractions at the second-year market that takes place every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. "It's hard not to overindulge on a weekly basis," jokes Keith Winge, executive director of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, the group that oversees the market. You can also find greens, organic soaps and regional wines. Keep an eye peeled for beekeeper Brian Turner, who sells honey, beeswax candles and lip balm. If you get too hot, you can cool down with bottled water from the Hall of Waters — the Public Works Administration project that possibly hosts the only water bar in the state. The farmers market happens at the intersection of Broadway and Elizabeth, across from the Hall of Waters, and runs through the month of September.— Jonathan Bender
