KKFI 90.1, Kansas City's community radio, does a lot for our local music scene. And starting on Thursday, they're kicking off a massive, on-air local band auction to raise money for the station, giving you a chance to win a private two-hour set from more than 100 local groups. It's a huge labor of love on the part of the station's hosts and features some of Kansas City's longstanding acts, such as Grand Marquis, Brody Buster, David George, Mary Bridget Davies, and Barclay Martin.
The band auction kicks off Thursday at 7:30 a.m. during the Morning Buzz with Cadillac Flambe and ends 10 days later at noon on April 17 with Three Dollar Band. It works like any auction: The station will feature 30-minute showcases of each band on-air and will take call-in bids from listeners during the set. The winning bidder will win a two-hour show from the band they bid on, to occur sometime during the next year. And if you just can't wait to bid on your favorite act (or you can't tune in at their slotted time), pre-auction bids began yesterday morning and will run until the event kicks off tomorrow morning.
