Beer nerd heaven might be in Independence. BD's Mongolian Grill (19750 E. Valley View Parkway) recently opened the Beer Growler Taproom - a 50-tap and 50-bottle celebration of craft beer. But the revelation (and let us hope this is the beginning of a trend) is that every beer which comes from the kegs behind a glass wall can be taken home in a 64-oz. growler, a refillable glass amber jug.

"We think it's pretty unique," said BD's Michael Passero. "A growler is the freshest way to drink draft beer at home."

The growlers sell for $5 apiece, while 32-oz. howlers are $4. Then you pick your beer for an additional cost and you can take back the glass jug for a new brew when you want one. The beer should stay fresh for a day or two after you unscrew the cap.

BD's currently has beer on tap from 29 breweries: 4 Hands, Avery, Bell's, Brewery Ommegang, Founders, New Holland, North Coast and Rogue among them. Boulevard, O'Fallon, Schlafly, Flying Monkey and Mother's are a few of the regional options.

In addition to its make-your-own stir fry, BD's has wings, burgers and fries in the Taproom. BD's also has a happy hour with $3 pints all day Monday and from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The Taproom is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
