Those who pray for a white Christmas are simply those who have never had a good slice of povitica. Find out why at "A Croatian Christmas," on Saturday at the Strawberry Hill Povitica Co. (7226 W. Frontage Rd., Merriam). The open house is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features free samples, bakery tours and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

There's nothing like sitting down to pancakes with St. Nick. Breakfast With Santa returns to the T-Rex Café on Saturdays and Sundays through December 23. There's a breakfast buffet, caroling and Santa. Call 913-334-8888 to make a reservation. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. The buffet costs $7.99 for children 4-10 years old and $12.99 for adults.

Wine and cheese are the peanut butter and jelly of the adult world. Find some comfort on the Say Cheese Wine Trail - Hermann's annual wine and cheese pairing - Saturday and Sunday. You can enjoy queso blanco with Adam Puchta's Puchta-rita, gruyere cheese with Vidal Blanc at Hermannhoff, and a ham and cheese crisp with Traminette at Stone Hill Winery. The winery tour, which includes seven stops, costs $30.

Leave your gloves in the closet and warm up with a nice winter ale. Old Chicago (11721 Metcalf, in Overland Park, and 11969 South Strang Line Road, in Olathe) has a Winter Mini Tour with eight seasonal beers, available through December 31. Try Widmer Brrr, a red ale from Widmer Brothers in Portland, Oregon, and Odell Isolation Ale, a caramel malty ale from Fort Collins, Colorado.

What have you got on tap for the weekend?
