You always remember your first, but eventually life makes most of us move on to the next. That's the case for Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue, which is moving its corporate headquarters from Martin City to 95 Metcalf Square in Overland Park in November.

The local barbecue institution, which operates four locations in the metro area, started out in Martin City with the 1974 opening of the Smokestack Barbeque restaurant. The success of that location led to Jack Stack's first foray into Overland Park with a sister restaurant two decades later.

Jack Stack president Case Dorman told the Kansas City Business Journal that the company "remains committed to our restaurant and catering option in Martin City."

So fans of the original location don't need to worry about it going anywhere. The move was characterized as a way for Jack Stack to centralize its business operations, which is sensible, with a location in Overland Park and two more restaurants in Kansas City (the Freight House District and the Country Club Plaza).

As far as I'm concerned, the company can make whatever moves it likes, just so long as the restaurant doesn't touch the recipe for the cheesy corn bake.
