A man probably can't live on pumpkin alone, but Dolce Baking Company (6974 Mission Road) makes me want to try. The Prairie Village bakery has a new line of pumpkin pastries that you'll intend to serve to guests but likely eat before the box even makes it home. And topping the list is a bourbon pumpkin parfait that is simply a cup above the rest.

You're probably not sick of pumpkin yet. So now's the time to gorge yourself. The cocktail-sized clear plastic cup that holds the bourbon pumpkin parfait is a great place to start.

The pumpkin parfait and whipped cream are creamy and not overly sweet. The pumpkin flavor isn't hidden by sugar, which means that this is an understated dessert. The bourbon comes through immediately and gives the cold cup a touch of warmth. It's strong enough to please bourbon fans, but isn't overpowering. Hunks of gingersnaps provide a bit of crunch that is a nice contrast. They can also double as a spoon if you're sharing.

Among the other pumpkin options are a pumpkin whoopie pie (pictured above), pumpkin cinnamon rolls and pumpkin cupcakes with caramel icing. The pumpkin whoopie pie has cream cheese filling and a dense exterior that calls to mind carrot cake. About the size of a racquet ball, it will require a cold glass of milk to finish.

It's fall and it's time for Dolce to pump(kin) you up.
