Jane Zieha-Bell, the owner of the eclectic Blue Bird Bistro, is thrilled that the weather is nice and warm -- last winter's arctic temperatures really hurt business -- and that the new restaurants, including Westside Local, Chez Elle and Fud, in her neighborhood, at 17th and Summit, have increased traffic for all the dining operations in the area.

But Zieha-Bell isn't sitting on her laurels: she's offering another opportunity for diners to hang out and dine with regional farmers this Saturday, when the Blue Bird Bistro hosts a Farmers Table Dinner from 6 to 9 p.m.

If you want to eat with the farmers, the reservations should be made for the 7:45 seating. The five-course dinner, priced at $45 per person, begins with an apertif and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a dish of luna -- half-moon-shaped pasta -- filled with house-made ricotta cheese made from Green Hills Harvest Dairy milk and blanketed in a thick sauce made with chunky fresh vegetables from the Wood Mood Garden and Nature's Choice Biodynamic Farm. A Blue Bird Bistro charcuterie follows, featuring local meats from Campo Lindo Farm, New Grass Bison, and Rain's Farm.

A salad prepared with baby beets from Thane Palmberg Farm tossed with cucumber oil, fresh arugula from the Blue Bird Bistro garden and Thane Palmberg Farm cucumber gelee is the next course, followed by Rain's Farm all-natural hangar steak, and Organic Way Farm sweet corn fritters drizzled with Menno Bennerman Farm smoked beurre blanc. And for dessert: an heirloom-tomato-and-fresh-mint tart featuring tomatoes from Nature's Choice Biodynamic Farms and mint from the Blue Bird Bistro's garden.

There will be a vegetarian meal for $45; wine pairings are an additional $20. For reservations, call the restaurant at 816-221-7559.
