Is this the New Year's Eve that finally lives up to your wildly unrealistic expectations? Probably not! But you have Wednesday off, so you might as well hit the town. Here are a few of our top picks in case you haven't yet decided where to go.

FOR FANCY-PANTS TYPES

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is hosting EVE, a party featuring performances by Govinda, Victor and Penny, Dave Stephens Band and DJ Earworm. Tickets range from $95 to $225, depending on how much access you want. More info here.

FOR THE MASSES

The Uptown Theater is hosting its annual party, which includes a six-hour open bar spread out across five rooms, laser light shows, and five DJs. Tickets cost $60. More here.

At KC Live at the Power and Light District, there's live music from the Patrick Lentz Band, a ball drop at midnight, fireworks, some complimentary food, access to 14 participating bars, open bar for four hours, $99. More here.

Countdown at the Corner is down a venue this year due to Velvet Dog's closing a few months back, but Tower Tavern, Sol Cantina, Haus, Empire Room and the Drop are still participating, $75 including booze. More here.

IN LAWRENCE

Midnight Kiss, a dance party from Team Bear Club, at the Eighth Street Taproom. More here.

Approach and some burlesque dancing at Liberty Hall, $13. More here.

Assjamz at the Granada, $5. More here.

IN MIDTOWN

At RecordBar, Afrobeat-funk from Hearts of Darkness and garage-punk from Lazy, $20. More here.

Last Dance, a party at the Riot Room featuring DJ sets from Sheppa, Norrit, Lotions and Trance E Books, $10.

Pussy Monster at Harling's. (Full disclosure: Pussy Monster is me and possibly one other guy playing R&B songs on a computer.) No cover.

An evening of blues with the Flood Brothers, Billy Beale, Coyote Bill Boogie Band, and the Kentucky Gentleman, at Westport Saloon, $7. More here.

Other ideas? Throw 'em in the comments.
