Ella, Elmwood Cemetery's most famous creature, was senselessly killed a week ago. Some cruel jerk shot the 2-year-old doe and left the body in the cemetery. A security guard found her last Monday night. Ella was born in the cemetery and hung around the tranquil place since she was 3 months old - after her mother was hit and killed by a car. Ella delighted cemetery visitors by being friendly and unafraid to chill out around people.

Now PETA is offering a $5,000 bounty on information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons who killed Ella. "Animal abusers are cowards," PETA director Martin Mersereau said in a press release announcing the reward. "They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them. Kansas City residents have good reason to be concerned. According to law-enforcement agencies and leading mental-health professionals, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to all animals - including humans."

The public has already raised about $1,500 in reward money to suss out this creep. Anybody with information should call the Kansas City Police Department at 816-234-5000.
