Breakfast sandwiches are often the Trojan Horse to excess. You start with something simple like an egg sandwich, but before you know it, you're eating half the farmstead. Smokin' Fresh Streetside BBQ has just such a morning plan to topple your appetite. As you near the southeast corner of the Brookside Farmers Market (6321 Wornall), the rich smell of smoked meats will curl under your nose and pull your feet toward the black food truck. And that's when your defenses will come tumbling down.

The timid can add cheese for 50 cents to their market egg sandwich ($4), but the bold can add a pile of pulled pork ($2) and a restrained squirt of their barbecue sauce. It's worth noting here that Smokin' Fresh uses organic ingredients (owner and chef Doug Sayles lists all his suppliers on the website) and has a standing vegetarian option on the menu (I shared a serviceable Southwest bean and rice wrap with my wife). The pork, sourced from Paradise Locker Meats, is tender, and the locally made Meat Mitch Naked Whomp barbecue sauce is on the sweet side. Ultimately, you're looking at breakfast and lunch in one meal.

Smokin' Fresh Streetside BBQ, based in Shawnee, is at the Waldo Farmers Market from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and at the Brookside Farmers Market from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
