This year's Best of Kansas City has something delicious for everyone

You don't have to wear white to read this year's Food & Drink section of the annual "Best of Kansas City" issue, but there is something old, something new, something borrowed (an idea, anyway) and something blue in its pages.

Lots of new restaurants are honored this year, including the vibrant Füd (Best Vegetarian Food), Frida's Contemporary Mexican Cuisine as Best Mexican Restaurant and Paparico's Mexican Restaurant as Best Mexican breakfast.

But let's not forget the classics: The venerable Town Topic (the oldest of the three local diners, at 2021 Broadway) once again got the nod for Best Place to Eat After Midnight. (Another longtime favorite, Chubby's, was voted Best Late Night Food by Pitch readers.) The iconic Waldo Pizza got this year's critical nod for Best Pizza (readers chose Spin Neapolitan Pizza, which was the critical choice in last year's "Best of Kansas City" issue), and the Drum Room -- which is a venue that's both old and new -- took honors for "Best Steak" this year.

Kansas City's savviest self-promoting waiter received the reader's vote for Best Server, but a more humble contender, Ben Cissner at Succotash, earned the critical top spot as this year's Best Server. But good service, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
