We're always happy to hear about the blending of culture and culinary here in Fat City, but we did raise our eyebrows at the idea of an art show on display at the smallest tea-and-coffee venue in Kansas City.
Since the Teahouse & Coffee Pot in Westport isn't much bigger than Barbie's Dream House, how on Earth was British-born manager Keith Buchanan going to find enough room to hang art on the walls?
"We have more room in here than you might think," says Buchanan, who is hosting tomorrow afternoon's opening of the newest ceramic work by local artist -- and astrologer! -- John Sandbach. Buchanan plans to serve wine, that staple beverage of most art galleries, from 3 to 5 p.m. as Sandbach greets friends and fans. Guests who want other cold beverages can buy them at the counter.
Business has been, unsurprisingly, a little slow at the Teahouse & Coffeepot during the summer months, Buchanan tells me, but his staff has been pushing cold drinks: iced coffee, frappes and a bevy of iced teas. "We have over 90 different teas that can be served over ice," Buchanan says, "as well as our premade teas like our house specialty, cold Moroccon mint tea with a splash of sweet vanilla syrup."
