The kitchen and dining area are one and the same at the Medrano-Loza family restaurant. There's room for nine people to sit (in good weather, the dining area gets expanded to two sidewalk tables with umbrellas). A mix of lawyers, laborers, and neighbors find conversation and conviviality at El Pequeno Guadalajara, but the focus is the authentic Mexican food accented with the house salsa (a unique, piquant combination of ancho peppers, cumin, and garlic). It's not only some of Kansas City's finest food, but it's a good value to boot -- Burrito Tuesday gets diners $1 burritos, lunch specials everyday are $4.50, and the topper is the 85-cent taco. It's Mexico prepared by hand and to order.
