Best Fish and Chips

75th Street Brewery

We know that the United Kingdom isn't loved for its cuisine. It is, after all, the region responsible for haggis and spotted dick. But the UK does get one dish right: A good plate of fish and chips comprises light, crisp, plump filets (preferably cod) served atop perfectly seasoned fries, with lemon and malt vinegar on the side. And the 75th Street Brewery gets it right, too. Fish and chips is the restaurant's most popular menu item, and customers can choose Mount McKinley (lovely Alaskan halibut); Mama's Creole Catfish; or the one we love the most, London's Best: three meaty, flaky pieces of cod prepared with fresh-brewed Cowtown wheat beer and served with a homemade tartar sauce that's sweet, tangy and light. The fries are thick-cut steak fries with the skin still on them. Like the fish, they're not greasy in the least.
