Kansas City's Blues and Jazz Festival

When planning a festival that has the city's name in its title, it's best to tap into the local music resources, especially in talent-rich Kansas City. So instead of throwing money at B. B. King and Buddy Guy, both of whom would pass through the area anyway on their annual tours, Kansas City's Blues and Jazz Festival secured sets from nationally known attractions who still maintain residence in the area: Claude "Fiddler" Williams, Jay McShann, Myra Taylor and Ida McBeth. Performing in front of a well-traveled crowd (festival organizers estimate that up to forty percent of the audience came from out of town), these legends (and star-in-the-making Karrin Allyson) proved that Kansas City artists still excel at the art form their hometown helped create.
