Whether you're making your own bridesmaids' dresses or competing to sew the world's longest taffeta drapes, Kaplan's Fabrics is the place to get your raw materials. Nestled on the Plaza for 64 years, Kaplan's gets its cloth from all over the world, including batik from Indonesia and prints from Africa. Hundreds of fabrics are draped over every available surface in the store, with prices ranging from $2.98 to $135 per yard. Though the fabric waterfalls at every turn may intimidate some, the store is accessible to people of all sewing levels and even offers sewing classes three times a week. At $100 per six-lesson course, even beginners can be expert tailors or seamstresses by the end of class.
