Jerry's Woodswether on Ninth

Never let it be said that Jerry Naster is stingy with his portions. "That's what I do," says Naster, who has run the Woodswether for ten years. "Why else would you come down here?" That's the West Bottoms he's talking about -- the Woodswether recently moved a few blocks away from its former location, but it still reminds us of the truck stops our dad used to take us to along Interstate 35 -- places where mesh baseball caps never went out of style and AC/DC belonged on the radio. (Just look for the crazy, Blues Brothers-themed mural with a hamburger and a hot dog as Jake and Elwood Blues.) The menu is stacked with comfort food -- hot ham-and-cheese or turkey sandwiches, burgers -- but Naster recommends that early birds try the omelet (his specialty) or the Big John -- two sausages, two eggs, two slices of cheese and hash browns served with gravy on top. Be still, our hearts.
