All in the Family

As if to prove that the Kennedys aren't the only dynastic family with a recently deceased patriarch, the new exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (4420 Warwick Boulevard, 816-753-5784), Wyeth: Three Generations of Artistry, opens today. Andrew Wyeth, the most well-known and most controversial artist of the family, died last January at age 91, but this show widens the spotlight to cover the work of the family as a whole, also including Wyeth's father, N.C.; his sister, Henriette Wyeth Hurd; and his son, James. The opening reception runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and curator Barbara O'Brien will lead a conversation with artist James Wyeth at 6:30. The exhibition remains on display through November 29, after which you'll have to contemplate the existential loneliness of midcentury rural America all by yourself.
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 17. Continues through Nov. 29, 2009
