An arena-size stage show that pairs contemporary pop music with classical music, Night of the Proms has been a huge hit in Europe since the mid-1980s. This summer, Night of the Proms will cross the pond for the first time, for shows in four American cities: Dallas, Little Rock, Omaha and - why else would I be writing this blog post right now? - Kansas City.

The show will feature performances by Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, the Pointer Sisters and Nile Rodgers (who's fresh off co-writing Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," the biggest hit of 2013). They'll be backed by the Belgian classical orchestra Il Novecento; an eight-piece band led by John Miles; and Fine Fleur, a 24-voice choir.

Based on the press conference I just attended and some YouTube videos, it appears to be a great event to eat psychedelic mushrooms at Vegas-style blow-out spectacle in the vein of Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil, et al.

The date of the show is Saturday, June 21, at the Sprint Center. Tickets are on sale next Friday, March 14, at 10 a.m.
