Breitbarts work was often controversial.
Conservative writer and publisher Andrew Breitbart died early this morning in Los Angeles. According to his website, Breitbart died "unexpectedly from natural causes." He was 43. Breitbart garnered much attention in the Kansas City area last year when his conservative commentary website, BigGovernment.com, published manipulated videos of a labor studies courses taught via video conference at UMKC and UMSL.

The videos claimed to show UMKC professor Judy Ancel and UMSL instructor Don Giljum making remarks supporting the use of violence and intimidation as labor bargaining tactics to be deployed against management. Raw videos of the courses were stored on a password-protected class website. A student downloaded them, and they ended up the in hands of a conservative group that edited the tapes and sent them to Breitbart's site for publication.

The videos were clearly edited together out of context, and both schools later agreed that their professors had been framed. But in the initial media furor, Giljum was told to resign, and he did. UMSL later reinstated him.
